Appeals Policy
The Training and Skills Organisation is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent assessment process for all learners. This Appeals Policy outlines the procedure for learners who wish to appeal an assessment decision they believe is unjust or incorrect.
The purpose of this policy is to provide learners with a formal mechanism to challenge assessment decisions made by The Training and Skills Organisation and to ensure that such appeals are reviewed objectively and fairly.
This policy applies to all learners enrolled in courses and programs offered by The Training and Skills Organisation.
Definitions:
Assessment Decision: The outcome of an assessment, including grades, feedback, or any other determination of a learner's performance.
Appeal: A formal request submitted by a learner to review and reconsider an assessment decision.
Second Assessor: An independent assessor responsible for reviewing and resolving appeals.
Procedure:
Informal Resolution:
Prior to initiating a formal appeal, learners are encouraged to seek an informal resolution by discussing their concerns with the assessor or instructor who made the assessment decision. Many issues can be resolved through open communication and clarification of expectations.
Formal Appeal:
If the learner is dissatisfied with the outcome of the informal resolution or prefers to pursue a formal appeal, they must submit a written appeal to the Appeals inbox within 7 days from the date of receiving the assessment decision.
Appeal Submission:
The written appeal should include the following information:
Learner's name and contact details.
Course or program name and identification number.
Details of the assessment decision being appealed (e.g., assignment name, assessment date).
Grounds for the appeal (e.g., perceived grading error, inconsistent application of assessment criteria, procedural irregularities).
Supporting evidence or documentation, if applicable.
Assessment Decision Review:
Upon receiving the written appeal, The Training and Skills Organisation will request that a Second Assessor review the assessment. This will be an impartial individual not involved in the initial assessment.
The Second Assessor will review the appeal, relevant assessment materials, and any supporting evidence provided by the learner.
The Second Assessor will make a decision based on the merit of the appeal, and this decision will be communicated to the learner within 28 days from the date of the appeal submission.
Appeal Outcomes:
The Second Assessor may decide to:
Uphold the original assessment decision.
Modify the assessment decision based on the merits of the appeal.
Require a re-assessment of the learner's work by a different assessor.
The decision of the Second Assessor is final and binding.
Confidentiality:
The Training and Skills Organisation will treat all information related to appeals as confidential and will only share it with individuals directly involved in the appeals process.
Review: This Appeals Policy will be reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
